Interpreting and Communicating Influenza Surveillance Data for Policy and Practice

Delivered by: US CDC
Duration: Full day
Venue: Hilton
Capacity: Unlimited

This workshop aims to improve the use of influenza surveillance data for programe and policy decision making. It is targeted at lab and epi focal points overseeing the surveillance programme but can span beyond that. It is a scenario-based workshop where participants will be asked to meet (lab and epi together), interpret example data, and build targeted communication messages to different stakeholders.

Virus culture and haemagglutination assay workshop

Delivered by: NICD
Duration: Full day
Venue: NICD
Capacity: 15

This workshop aims to introduce participants to the procedures of virus culture and the haemagglutination inhibition assay. It will be conducted at NICD and participants will be transported there by bus. The course will be a mixture of lectures, demonstrations of different laboratory processes and interactive discussion. A tour of the NICD campus and respiratory virus laboratories will be included.

Influenza genomic analysis and phylogenetics training workshop

Delivered by: NICD, NIH Fogarty
Duration: Full day
Venue: NICD
Capacity: Applications Closed

This workshop aims to introduce participants to influenza genomic analysis and phylogenetics. Topics covered will include genome assembly and mapping, antiviral resistance and mutation analysis, phylogenetics and phylodynamics and use of publically available tools including GISAID. It will be conducted at NICD and participants will be transported there by bus. The course will be a mixture of lectures, demonstrations, hands-on analysis and interactive discussion. Participants are requested to bring their own data, where possible, as there will be a session for hands-on practice of tools with the participants own data. A tour of the NICD campus and respiratory virus and sequencing laboratories will be included.

Estimating influenza disease burden to establish and expand influenza vaccination: methods, tools and best practices

Delivered by: NICD, NIH Fogarty, PIVI, US CDC, WHO
Duration: Full day
Venue: Hilton
Capacity: Unlimited

This interactive workshop will cover data needs, methods, and tools for estimating influenza disease burden and how this information can support decision making on vaccine program strategies. In addition, it will provide a forum to learn about and discuss considerations, best practices and opportunities in developing and implementing influenza vaccination policies in the region. The target audience is any ANISE attendee who wishes to become familiar with influenza disease burden estimation methods and tools and influenza vaccination policy development and oportnunities for support in this area. Special interest in this topic is expected from people working on influenza surveillance, data analysis, and vaccination policy and program development and implementation. For attendees who bring their own data there will be an opportunity to work closely with facilitators to analyse their data.
